"The Future of Vision Safety” revealed to bus market at APTA Show

On average, bus drivers perform one evasive maneuver to avoid a side collision every three days1. Primarily, bus accidents occur during lane changes, because bus drivers have a huge blind spot with conventional mirrors (see ill. A). Velvac, the leader in safety vision systems, is introducing three new products specifically intent on preventing these accidents from occurring: the 2020XG Shuttle Bus Camera-in-Mirror, the 2030XL Transit Bus Camera-in-Mirror and the “Hyperion Guardian” Road-iQ telematics system.

Velvac has completed a transaction with Qualnetics, Inc., a telematics products leader, purchasing its operations and a major portion of its intellectual property. Qualnetics had been a technology partner with Velvac driving the development of its new “Hyperion Guardian” Road-iQ system. This Road-iQ system, integrates up to seven cameras with vehicle data connectivity and Wi-Fi/4G cellular communications to display, record, and communicate important vehicle safety information via an iPad tablet computer. Fleet vehicles, buses and RVs equipped with Road-iQ offer drivers and fleet managers complete access to not only the driving data, but video, as well, providing greater security and safety.

NTSB Issues Tractor-Trailor Safety Recommendations

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued several non-binding recommendations to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) asking that they take specific actions to enhance the safety of tractor-trailers.

Included among the recommended actions is a recommendation that NHTSA require all newly manufactured truck-tractors with GVWRs over 26,000 pounds be equipped with visibility enhancement systems to improve the ability of drivers to detect passenger vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists in their blind spots. Velvac Announces Acquisition of ViewMaster Product Line

Velvac, Inc., a leading manufacturer of components to the truck, bus, recreational and specialty vehicle industries, announced today that it has acquired the assets of the ViewMaster mirror product line from the former Mirror Lite Company. ViewMaster mirrors are used on vehicles in the refuse market, as well as other heavy and medium-duty trucks. Velvac now offers the refuse industry’s broadest line of rear-view mirror products, covering OEM vehicle applications for the full range of vehicles in that market.

Velvac Announces Settlement of Lawsuit with Rosco

New Velvac Los Angeles Warehouse Location

In an effort to improve customer service and product availability for our West Coast customers, Velvac will be moving its Los Angeles warehouse location to a new building. The new warehouse will be located in an adjacent building, next door to the old Hicks Warehouse, with Will-Call access on the Southwest corner of Noakes and Indiana Street.

As a result of the move, the LA warehouse will be closed on Friday, November 1, 2013, and reopened on Monday, November 4, 2013.
