  • Closed December 24, 25, 31 and January 1 - Open for business January 2, 2014

Reynosa Mexico Manufacturing Facility

  • Closed from December 23 to January 3 - Production begins January 6, 2014.
  • Orders in place prior to the shut-down will be scheduled to avoid any shipping disruptions during this period.

Backup Warning Devices Required in Delaware

Heavy trucks based in Delaware will soon have to be equipped with devices that can warn drivers or bystanders when the vehicles are backing up. Gov. Jack Markell (D) signed the legislation Aug. 30, stating that all vehicles weighing more than 26,000 lbs. will require an audible reverse signal that bystanders can hear, or a warning system or backup camera that can tell a driver if the vehicle is at risk of hitting something while backing up. The requirement will take effect Jan. 1, 2014.

Paul Hughes Candidate for RVIA Board of Directors

Paul Hughes, Velvac’s Director of RV and Specialty Vehicle Markets, was nominated to run for the 2014 RVIA Board of Directors. Mr. Hughes is well known and respected in the RV industry, and has been an active member of RVIA since 2005, attending and supporting numerous functions aimed at expanding RV ownership. He has been a pioneer in expanding the usage of camera-based vision systems in motorhomes, helping to improve the safety of drivers and pedestrians, alike.

Velvac Supports WCTC's CDL Training Course

Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) recently completed its new Transportation Building, a 5,300-square-foot facility to be used for the college’s Truck Driving technical diploma program. As a thank you for donating two complete Aero-Cam vision systems with Fleet-Guard recording technology, Velvac was invited to attend the building’s ribbon cutting and open house held June 11.

FMCSA Grants Exception for Video Event Recorders

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has granted an exemption that will enable video event recorders to be mounted on commercial motor vehicles lower in the windshield than previously permitted by the Agency’s regulations.

According to the FMCSA, the possible safety gains from "the use of video event recorders to improve driver behavior will improve the overall level of safety to the motoring public." This continues to validate the importance of innovations in the category of video event recorders, pursuing improvements in fleet safety.

With an estimated 12.5 million people in the US diagnosed with cancer, almost every one of us has had our lives touched by someone suffering from this devastating disease. And it is for this reason that Velvac has been such a strong supporter of efforts to further research and find a cure. On September 23rd for the 7th consecutive year, Velvac employees, family and friends formed Team Velvac to help raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Breast Cancer walk/run. Different this year from past years, there were several fund raisers prior to race day.

A recent article in BusRide magazine explains how a camera-based vision system can completely eliminate the blind zones on transit buses, showing tremendous potential to reduce transit bus side crashes.

Paul Hughes, Director of Sales for the RV and Specialty Vehicle Markets at Velvac, summarizes the findings of a research study conducted by the Center for Urban Transportation and Research (CUTR), which evaluated the effectiveness of mirror-based, sensor-based and camera-based systems for side collision avoidance.
